Whether they learn to sign just for fun or because they interact with deaf or hard of hearing peers, bringing sign language into your children’s lives will widen their horizons and enrich their education. Play2Sign’s easy-to-learn interface is based on a lot of hours of testing with kids to search out what works. It introduces common words and phrases in digestible chunks (six words at a time) in an “immersive” mini game format that challenges users to learn vocabulary while interacting with a “true” teacher who encourages them to accomplish the goals of the mini game. Immersive learning is known to be one of the most efficient ways for teaching languages and is especially effective with kids 10 years of age and younger. The Play2Sign apk is mostly immersive, except for the "practice screens" that precede the mini games. These practice screens do use English text to assist the adult that may be using this apk! This text assistance can be toggled on or off by the player. If the text assistance is toggled OFF, then our immersive format means that we don’t use any written or spoken English at all! Instead, the Play2Sign mini games uses only photos, each of which is paired with a video clip of an expert ASL signer. In this apk, vocabulary words are grouped into categories such as animals, clothing, and colors. After practicing with a group of six words in a category, users can select to play either the “erasing” mini game or the “memory” mini game to try their knowledge. Play2Sign is self-paced and self-reinforcing, and our friendly, expressive signers create learning ASL fun.
