About our Uprising Bike Lane Uprising is a cyclist-led civic tech platform. We’re focused on making cycling safer by making it simple to report bicycle lane obstructions. Bicycle Lane Uprising was founded by Christina Whitehouse after she was almost run over by a driver of a commercial truck. The driver entered into the bicycle lane, right-hooking her. The incident happened in Chicago which coincidentally was named the most bicycle friendly town in the United States that year. The reality is, cyclists are killed each year and a lot of more are injured, even in top biking cities. While a lot of miles of bicycle lanes exist, to hold cyclists secure, they’re often blocked by drivers who use them as gratis parking. By creating a central database of bicycle lane obstructions we are able to highlight trouble places and trends surrounding bicycle lane violations. We work with local organizations, town departments, and companies directly in an effort to prevent future bicycle lane obstructions. After launching in Chicago, Bicycle Lane Uprising spread via word of mouth to over 100 cities and counting.
