Bird Jar is a world-wide bird checklist apk that helps you hold track of your bird sightings. Important note: It is suggested that you enable the following 3 permissions for Bird Jar to work properly: "Place" (used as a default for bird sighting places that you make), "Microphone" (used for recording bird audio), and "Storage" (used to shop your bird images, audio, and bird list backups and exports). View the Bird Jar FAQ here: http://firsttrees.homeip.net/BirdJar/jsp/faq.jsp - Over 10,600 bird species are included in the listing (all known bird species, per the IOC Globe Bird List v 6.2). - This is not intended to be a bird identification apk, however images or illustrations are provided from the Bird Jar webserver for over 1300 birds. A lot of photos of North American and European birds are included. - Filter birds from the following regions: North America (Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and the lower 48 United States), Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania/Pacific Ocean (including Hawaii), Southern Atlantic Ocean, and the Indian Ocean. - You may filter on one or more regions, or present all globe birds. - Browse all birds by bird family. - Quickly view bird family counts, as well as your life list counts per bird family. - View all your latest sightings. - Find for birds, bird families, and sighting places. - View bird conservation status. - Perform a Web Find on each bird, which gives you internet find results for a bird's images, songs, range maps, and Wikipedia entry. (Requires network connection.) - Record bird sightings by date and place, including bird count. (Note: at the show time, it is highly suggested that every so often you perform a "backup and email" of your data, via the Settings page. This will ensure that you can restore your data if you ever lose or make batter your device. See http://firsttrees.homeip.net/BirdJar/jsp/faq.jsp#faq17 for info. As of ver 1.5, Bird Jar automatically backs up your data to Google's cloud service, so that it will be automatically restored upon re-installing Bird Jar on a fresh device.) - Record unidentified bird sightings. - Take or import images, and create bird call recordings. These can then be viewed either on the bird info page, or all at once on the Images and Recordings page. - Enter notes. - View all sightings by date and/or place. - Save custom sighting places. - Save birds to custom categories. - View your Life List checklist. - Most views have customizable sort and filter options. - View sighting maps. - Email a bird sighting report. - Export bird sightings to the eBird record format (which can then be imported into the eBird web application). - Backup and restore your bird sighting data. Separate devices will not auto sync. 2. To receive data from one device to other, you may perform a backup on one device and then transfer the backup file to the another device to restore it. 3. Very Necessary! If you create any change on a particular device, that device's Bird Jar data will be automatically uploaded to Google's apk data server. Then, the next time you perform a fresh install on a device, this data will automatically be brought down into Bird Jar. Only one copy of data will ever exist on the Google servers, so if you have 2 devices with Bird Jar installed on each device, making a change in Bird Jar will upload *that* device's Bird Jar data to the Google server, replacing the Bird Jar data that is stored on the server. For this reason, it is suggested that you use Bird Jar on only one device at a time.

Roger W. Hermanson: Rogwherm A GREAT birder's apk. I'm using it to transfer my life list to digital format from the original index filing cards dating back to the 80s. You've got to love the ease of adding dates or places at will, or not! Some of my most common birds like the Mallard, &c., have no "first sighting" date or locale. This apk is very variable that method. Very well thought out and designed.

john richards: Brilliant apk. I'm in my late 60's and search using tablets difficult. I have a Samsung P-900 and have tried a few bird logging apks. As a try, first entry is Alpine Chough. Most apks don't recognise it but yours does. One trouble for me is I have so a lot of sightings over the years that when I go back and log them, then finding the place on the map takes me a lot of time. I would be satisfied if in a future modernize it is possible to just input Latitude/Longitude into a box (if this then automatically took the place to the map, so much the better even if this meant having to pay for the apk).

Chuck Grasmeder: Seems excellent for me I was looking for an apk that would provide a bird list for me and my children. I wanted it to gather date and place easily, and this does. It also allows me to snap a pic of my sighting or record it. That's a premium. I'm looking forward to using this frequently.

David Badke: Good for lists This is a good apk for maintaining lists of identified birds and viewing the lists in different methods. It won't assist you identify birds but it is ok for recording sightings. I would give it 5 stars if the way for entering fresh places wasn't so painful. It makes minimal use of GPS, and the map where you have to drag a pointer to present the place is too little and can't be expanded. It really does contain all of the world's birds though, which is good if you travel. The backup feature is also awesome.

Sharon Broniatowski: This apk is very simple to use. Occasionally, I have problems when N. American names differ from international names, but these are generally simple to resolve with minimum effort. A link to a desktop equivalent would create me rate this apk as 5 stars. I prefer not to shop all my bird images on my smartphone since there are so a lot of, and they are really big files taken with a DSLR camera. Thus, they would presumably use up a lot of storage place on my smartphone. The mapping part of the apk is very awesome, but it is sometimes difficult to receive the "long press" to actually register in order to move the marker. Not sure if that is due to my smartphone or to the apk.

Ken Zauter: Awful Cannot delete sightings checked in error. That's beautiful primary. Common names are messed up. Example, test to search a White-winged Crossbill. Avoid this apk before you place too much time into it.
