AIS receiver and display using just your Android device device. Boat Beacon is the only Marine AIS ship tracking apk to provide Collision Detection, use real-time data and share your own boat’s position with another internet AIS players. Specifically designed for use on the water, as well as showing all the Ships around you on a chart, Boat Beacon uniquely provides Bearing, Range and Closest Point of Approach (CPA) calculations in addition to AIS ship info. Transmits as well as receives internet AIS and is the only apk that continuously monitors CPA, notifying if potential collisions are detected even when the apk is in the background. However if you wish to be seen on Global AIS systems like Marine Traffic, Ship Searcher and AIS Hub, etc. then you will need to have and use an MMSI number. If you don't have an MMSI for your boat you can receive a gratis one in the US by visiting http://www.boatus.com/mmsi (the USCG approved agent) and using their online form. Kevan McHale: Good presentation, perfect service The on screen presentation suggests that the developer actually understands what someone using the apk needs. I had a little problem with the apk not closing down properly which was very quickly responded to and a workaround provided,. Less then 4 days later I got a follow up email advising me that an modernize had been released with a fix.

An extremely worthwhile program which has been very well designed and proved very reliable. No issues with working via WiFi or over Cellular data. The fresh CPA bearing and distance info is a good improvement and the apk developer has been very responsive to recommendations.

Stewart Burness: Perfect ap for yachties Good tool, much more useful than the others out there - especially when using on a yacht - rather than just looking at ships as a hobby. Coming into or leaving port or cruising down a coast,I can generate WiFi connection for my Nexus 7 using MiFi allowing Boat Beacon to present me Ships on the move (or about to leave a dock or about to round a headland). Lots of useful data accessible including Course, heading, speed etc. Thanks, look forward to future developments including a possible connection to onboard AIS engine for use offshore.
