In the Empire of the Petal Throne™, will you search glory, or a knife in your back? "Choice of the Petal Throne" is a 124,000-word interactive fantasy novel by Danielle Goudeau, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination. M.A.R. Barker's globe of Tékumel™ is a fantasy universe like no another, where South American, Middle Eastern, and Indian cultures collide. The princes and princesses of the Tsolyáni empire vie for their father's mystical Petal Throne, tearing the nation apart with civil fight and political intrigues. As a captain in one of their armies, will you play as male or female, gay straight or bi? A brave and forthright soldier, a hedonistic intriguer with a heart of gold, or scheming double agent? • Journey in Tékumel, the first published RPG setting. • Balance conflicting loyalties amidst a civil fight. • Play multiple times and see how your fate changes. • War for your prince with sword-craft, tactic, or sorcery. • Are you forthright or devious, type, or brave? • Play as male or female, gay, straight, or bisexual.

Dan Courtney: If you know Tekumel you will love this. If you don't I advise you to check this out, best fantasy globe ever. More please!

Derrick Vansickle: I loved it. Wished there were more choice mini games like this one. My only trouble is that it ends so fast. You should finish the mini game in 30 mins. If you're a quick reader. But besides that I suggest playing this mini game.

Amsel Leon Alston: Since the first time I saw the single sequence that was entered into the IF comp, I was hooked. The thought of other author that rivalled Tolkien was intoxicating and it led me to be firmly hooked into the universe that is Tekumel. After all these years of waiting, this story does not disappoint and I highly suggest it to all who are seeking their next journey or are looking to discover alternatives to the more traditional high fantasy authors.

Wayne Ryback: Possibly the best solo RPG I have played. Immersive and real to Barker's vision. You are challenged to create the choices a Tsolyani would.

Ben McFarland: This didn't feel rushed at all. I greatly enjoyed playing out a lot of iterations of the story, trying to search all of the accomplishments scattered throughout the mini game. Definitely for those who have fun "Endless Quest" adventures, but this one's a bit more adult. An perfect primer to Tekumel culture and society.

Daniel Tyndall: This mini game has one of the most original worlds I've seen in quite some time. Instead of other generic Tolkien clone, this globe is a put that is both somewhat familiar, yet totally alien at the same time.

Gwen Fifield: One of the best interactive novels I've found. So a lot of choices and possible achievements. I love it :)

T Angle: Good storyline. Very engaging!!

Gentle Esther: This is my favorite COG by far. It created me invest in my hero, the relationship she had with all around her, and her ultimate destiny. Writing was awesome. Lengthy. Like a real novel where you're the central chct. Negs: some passages are really long on one page, endings leave you wanting more (it's not over! More), no sequel as far as I know. But it was so rich and action packed and romantic and exactly what an interactive novel could be. Not even the tropey parts felt tropey. Awesome job

mario cole: Good mini game and a good primer of Tekumel

Jon Hancock: It's often said that Professor Barker's globe of Tékumel is too complex and esoteric to be understood and enjoyed by most people, but this perfect mini game is a ok argument versus that lazy dismissal. Lots of detail and colour without being needlessly picayune, yet it also avoids the trap of over-explaining everything and ruining the tale. Contrary to some of the reviews I found plenty of play here with a very satisfying ending, far from abrupt and very much in keeping with the overall tone. Suggested.

Addison Davis: I enjoyed the story, but I found the ending to be abrupt and sudden. As if I had been sprinting, then ran around a corner and smacked face first into a brick wall. Another than that, good job.

Angel T: I liked it. But it ends when it gets awesome. What happens next? I'm not talking about a cliffhanger, just an ending that leaves you wanting more. I'm no method saying this mini game isn't awesome, because it totally is worth it. You be the judge.

Cel x: As someone else said, the ending is related to another choice of mini games, like black cat, for instance. A tiny fast, but you will know when it comes. It's not totally out of the blue, though it definitely leaves you wanting more.

dan theman: But the ending did allow it down a bit but still really awesome

Stavon Lindner: It's a bit short but it's still a fun interesting story.

Wayne Wyant: Good tiny story, love the culture.

Stephen Young: As say the others didn't understand some parts but still worth a read through

Jose Camacho: Perfect read, but too short!

Bradley Allen: Ending was weak. The rest was good!

n mo: Awesome. Should have been better. The setting was neat but the story wasn't. Although you should characterize your main hero beautiful interestingly.

Lucas House: I don't care what anybody says the ending was awful it did no justice for the rest of the full and in-depth story. The whole time while I read I felt so involved, but I didn't even realise I finished the story until I was on the Subscrice for future stories page. It was such a awesome story ruined by a kick in the pants, no substance, piece of crap ending. It did have a saving grace, the ride to the ending is fun, but be prepared for disappointment when you finish.

Nichaelas: This is other mini game I trust is best the first time through. It got stale after the second playthrough, but was a good story with some variation in endings.

Gideon St. John: ...but the end effect somehow falls flat for me. I'm not giving less than 4 stars simply because it IS a awesome, fun mini game offering enough choice and dozens. Just not as much as I'd like I. It feels limited and constrained in subtle methods. You receive sandwiched into a way of trouble solving off the bat and deviating from it seems doomed to meet with failure. And if you split your focus you'll fail even more often. Or so it feels. Kinda makes the mini game boring quick.

Lincoln Hoffmann: The story itself is awesome. However, it is not worth the price asked. The story ends a bit abruptly, having certainly enough plot left to continue. It also seems to have rather set endings, making the choices rather insignificant. If it had been longer, with more to it, I would have enjoyed it far more. Plus, the twins seem to be pointless, and though gender for your hero is selected by you, it still feels as if you could be male.

Agung Marpaung: Alright so when I scroll through the reviews there is a divide between wether the ending is rushed or not. So I will tell you my opinion on the matter. It is rushed. For the easy reason that the mini game failed to meet its promise. So I rejected to marry my arranged spouse in order to save her from politics, then the elders of my guild promise me other arranged spouse if I came back from a fight with glory, and I did exactly that, but what did the mini game gave me? Just thanks from my comrades and nothing, the mini game just ended, bam, with me being left without no spouse whatsoever. Ironically the mini game said in the beginning that you can have more than one spouse but ehh, lies. For a 124k words, not worth it.

A Google user: The lore is glorious, but the hero work (as compared to, say, Choice of Robots or anything by Delight Mini games) is rather lacking.
User rated this game 3/5 on 2019-03-23
Ethan McCann: It's awesome writer has potential but end is awful just ruins it
