Now updated with a fresh look and feel! The Concussion Assessment and Response™: Sport Ver (CARE) is an apk that helps athletic trainers, squad physicians, and another qualified health care specialists assess the likelihood of a concussion and answer quickly and appropriately to this potentially serious medical situation. CARE provides instruction and helps document info during injury assessment and aids in tracking the recovery process. Assessment info recorded by the apk can be e-mailed to physicians or another medical specialists. CARE also allows players to assess an athlete's readiness to return to play with a step-by-step testing regimen. FEATURES: Injury Assessment and CPR Cues Balance Evaluation Scoring System (BESS) Standardized Assessment of Concussion (SAC) Graded Symptom Checklist (GSC) Return-to-Play Guide Concussion General Info (FAQs) ACE Post-Concussion Home/School Instructions HOW IT WORKS: Injury Assessment From the instant a user is injured, the player can choose "Fresh Injury" to be guided through a basic emergency survey that helps rule out a cervical spine injury, evaluate concussion signs and symptoms, and assess cranial nerve function. The apk provides CPR cues for unresponsive athletes with no pulse and helps the player assess another serious signs of injury ("red flags") and provides a fast link to dialing 9-1-1. Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) The BESS evaluates an athlete's ability to maintain postural stability, providing necessary info about loss of balance in an injured athlete. CARE provides instructions for guiding an athlete through the BESS stances: single leg, double leg, and tandem. The apk makes it simple to record baseline performance for healthy athletes; then, if an injury is suspected, the BESS can be administered once more and the results compared to the individual's baseline. Sideline Assessment of Concussion (SAC) The SAC assesses the mental status of the athlete. Its questions address orientation, immediate memory, concentration, and memory recall. The SAC also enables the player to record neurological findings such as presence or loss of sensation, strength, and coordination in the athlete. SAC data can be recorded to provide baseline performance for each athlete; then, if an injury occurs, the SAC can be administered once more and the results compared to the baseline scores. Graded Symptom Checklist (GSC) This program enables players to track the severity of post-concussion symptoms during the athlete's recovery process in quantifiable terms. Players first choose the timing of the assessment by selecting baseline, injury, post-game, or recovery and then rate the severity of each symptom on a graded scale from 0 (no symptoms) to 6 (severe). Return-to-Play Guide This program helps protect athletes from further injury by guiding them through a everyday gradual physical exercise routine that tests their tolerance for exertional activity. Through a five-step, tiered workout routine, players ensure that the athlete is able to handle the exertional exercises as they progress toward their return to play. General Information The app's concussion info section helps ensure that players have a comprehensive understanding of concussions as well as the function of the CARE-Sport Ver. Jason Mihalik, PhD, CAT(C), ATC, and Gerard A. Gioia, PhD, concussion professionals from the Matthew A. Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and the Children's National Medical Center, have provided players with the most current and relevant info for this section. Acute Concussion Evaluation (ACE) Post-Concussion Home/School Instructions Included with the apk is an instructional page that players can share with non-medical personnel, including coaches, parents, and athletes, to tutorial early management of the athlete following a concussion.

Joshua Allen: I have yet to use this on an actual injury, just installed it. So far it looks like a good method to take care of sideline documentation. It does need an place for gratis text notes, for example, if I wish to check for saccades, I wish a put to document the presence or absence of them, vertical and horizontal. As well as convergence, smooth pursuits, etc.

Alex Viveiros: I love the convenience of this apk! I would give it 5 stars if 2 things were various. 1. The memory try could have various word set options, and 2. An option to skip the instructions of each evaluation. Overall very awesome though, hold it up!

Jennifer Regan: In going through the trial, it said the athlete didnt have a concussion because a blow to the head wasnt reported. What about a non contact concussion from whip lash? Ive had plenty of athletes keep non contact concussions. You cant rule out a concussion just because there wasnt a blow to the head....

A Google user: The apk is good for doing baseline/injury assessment/return to sport treatments for concussion management. As a Certified Athletic Trainer I plan to use this apk to track/monitor the student-athletes where I am employed. There needs to be some improvements to create the apk player friendly/time efficient. I have emailed the developer and hope to see some of my requests implemented.

Jeff Horgan: I have used this apk to perform sideline and recovery concussion tests. My only trouble is that the words in the SAC try are the same, and if you perform this on the same athlete multiple times they are likely to memorize the words and then their scores can be a false positive for improvement. This could be worked on.

Ole Bjørsvik: The apk is created so you are supposed to register an "athlete" before you can use the apk to help your evalution. Notq particularly useful in the field. And everytime you begin it, you to go through a privacy policy... --- If someone should cheat the apk, prune it of cool-looking fill, remove focus from the longterm items, create a "Begin Evaluation" button, instead of a "Register Fresh Athlete" -- and create a de-Americanised ver -- it would be good.
