A brief note from Dr. Al: Hello. My name is Dr. Al Winebarger. I am a clinical psychologist who works with children, families and adults. I have spent my entire career working to create psychology understandable and useful to true people in their true lives. I strive to do this both in my day-to-day practice, as well as in the self-help ebooks I have authored and co-authored over the years. My practice is devoted to helping people as they cope with difficulties in their day-to-day lives. I test to avoid “psychobabble” and to take a down to earth approach to the work I do. Over the course of my career I have had a lot of unbelievable opportunities to grow as a professional. I have written a number of self-help ebooks and designed a day treatment camp tool for children with ADD/ADHD that has been run in at least four cities across the country. My attention camp protocol grew out of my time training at the University of Oregon and the Oregon Social Learning Center (an internationally respected juvenile treatment and research center). There I learned the importance of making ensuring my clinical practice is firmly based on scientifically supported ideas. Working as a college professor at GVSU also expanded my appreciation of the importance of making psychology understandable. While there I had the occasion to train people who would go on to be therapists, researchers, psychologists and unique education teachers. As an Air Force psychologist I learned how to bring psychology to men and women serving our country in stressful and risky methods, and how to accomplish my mission with the resources at hand!
