The eSpeak engine is a little, lightweight text-to-speech (TTS) tool that supports a really big number of languages. It has a more robotic sounding voice than another engines due to its little size (see http://espeak.sourceforge.net/samples/raven.ogg for an example of what it sounds like). The trade-off for this somewhat harsher sound is a very responsive and resource-friendly engine with voices which remain intelligible at much higher speeds than another, more human-sounding alternatives.This is a port of eSpeak to Android device for 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and later (including Android device 4.3), supporting all 79 languages and accents of eSpeak (see http://reecedunn.co.uk/espeak-for-android for the list).It is built on the eyes-free ver, fixing multiple problems found in the eyes-free version:1. Compatibility with Android device 4.3 (as of 1.47.11d);2. Speech rate and pitch are correctly handled, so eSpeak on Android device sounds like it does on the desktop;3. Speech rate is set as words per minute4. Pitch, base pitch and volume are configurable as percentages.5. The eSpeak variant can be chosen, including the NVDA voice variants.6. Punctuation level and punctuation heroes are configurable.7. Languages are correctly chosen (e.g. choosing Slovak and Slovenian, or choosing Cantonese Chinese);8. Language names are correctly displayed (e.g. "Scottish English" is displayed as "English (United Kingdom, Scottish Standard English)" instead of "English (Saychelles)");9. Accent and unique heroes are supported;10. MIPS-based devices are supported;11. Different memory leaks and crashes are fixed;12. SSML is only processed if the SSML markup is wrapped in a tag.13. Help for importing custom-built eSpeak dictionaries.NOTE: When enabling eSpeak, you will receive a notice stating "This speech synthesis engine may be able to collect all the text that will be spoken, including private data like passwords and credit card numbers. It comes from the eSpeak engine. Enable the use of this speech synthesis engine?". This is a standard warning issued by Android device devices for accessibility tool that comes from an external source.The eSpeak engine does not collect any data in the text passed to it. S Massy: The best TTS engine out there ESpeak is my favourite TTS engine across platforms because it is quick, lightweight, multilingual and, of course, Begin Source. Until this ver came along, there were no functional ports for Android device and most, if not all another alternatives were either lacking in stability, usability or responsiveness. This one is the ticket. ESpeak's tone will not please all, but, otherwise, it has most of what a awesome TTS could have, most especially to use with a screen-reader such as TalkBack. Help Begin Source!

Phong Nghia Nguyen Thai: ver 1.48.15 have trouble with Vietnamese. When "tieng Viet" is chosen, Espeak usually reads in "tieng Viet (Viet nam, Hue)" or "Tieng Viet (Viet Nam, Sai gon)". Pleae fix it.

Anirban Mukherjee: This apk is highly useful for me as it supports languages another than English. However, I would like to see following improvements. 1. Contain emogy-support, 2. Fix the problem of crashing in Android device 6 and above, 3. Improve voice quality of Bengali. Hope to give it a 5* if these problems are fixed.

Josh Rima: Awful. Was really hoping this one would be fine... Despite some of the comments, but im finding the best voice us the ones google offers for gratis. While they do sound a bit robotic, they sounds far less robotic than any another TTS apk engine i was able to search. AND ITS FREE. Anyond comes across s9mething GOOD... please allow me know! Thanks.
