Learn primary kanji through kanji words: GENKI Kanji Cards is a digital card apk that helps players become able to recognize 317 primary kanji by studying more than 1,100 kanji words at their own pace! This is the second official apk to be released for “GENKI: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese,” a best-selling series of Japanese learning materials boasting more than 1.2 million copies sold. Advantages ◆ Players can view the cards as they like, enabling them to study at their own pace. ◆ By repeating a process of memorization and self-checking, learners can master readings of kanji words and recognition of primary kanji. ◆ Cards already mastered are progressively removed from the card deck, so players can concentrate on just the kanji that challenge them, making for a more efficient approach to learning. Study ways and functions ◇ “MyDeck” allows players to view the cards over and over, so they can take their time learning. ・Users memorize the kanji by freely displaying or hiding each card’s kanji word or reading. ・The cards in MyDeck can be shuffled. ・Basic info on the target kanji is provided on the back of each card. ・Fun illustrations and mnemonic tips assist players to better retain the kanji studied. (The illustrations and tips are taken from the very famous learning resource “Kanji Look and Learn.”) ・The stroke order of each kanji is shown with animation. ◇ “Check” helps learners to track their mastery. ・Users check their understanding of the cards studied and sort them into those mastered and those not yet retained. ・Retention can be checked by going from Reading to Kanji, or vice-versa. ・The cards already mastered are taken out of the set, leaving behind just those that still need to be worked on. ◇ “List” displays a list of all the words and kanji covered by the apk so that players can see their progress and review them. ・In the lists arranged in lesson order, a-i-u-e-o order, or alphabetical order, checkmarks are automatically placed next to words that have been mastered. The cards can be displayed from the list entries, enabling fast review. ・Kanji info on the cards can be displayed from the entries in the On/Kun list. ○This apk is based on the kanji and kanji words learned in the second edition of GENKI. ○It functions the same as the iPhone ver of GENKI Kanji Cards. ○The stroke order animations may not run properly on some devices/platforms. Jeff Lampiasi: Convenient, helpful, simple Good apk. I've used all of the Genki apks for iPhone and have been waiting for them all to be released for Android device, so I'm just waiting for the conjugation apk. I used to use these on the subway on my method to and from class and they helped so much. There are some gratis flash card apks out there if you can't afford these, but I'd definitely suggest spending the cash for these as the quality and convenience of a companion apk that goes with your textbook is worth it.

Brooke Lyn: This apk is very helpful to me as I am a student using the Genki 2 textbook currently. This assures I'm learning the kanji that I need for school, rather than another kanji not relevant to me at this time. My only complaint is that I can't hide the English words in Reading mode, and I know that sometimes I am just translating the word instead of actually remembering the kanji reading. I would love to have a mechanism to hide/unhide the English word, the same method you can hide/unhide the hiragana reading. I do love being able to flip the card over and see various readings advertisement well as the stroke order and mnemonic pictures though :) I definitely will continue to use this apk, but I hope to see it modernize in the future

Erikson Sodergren: Reading mode Remove English meaning from this mode. I can't tell if I'm remembering the reading because I actually know the kanji, or because I can see the English on my screen and translate that instead.

Gary Penovich: There are no clear instructions. No obvious way for selecting either the correct hiragana sound or English definition for a displayed Kanji hero, or to write the correct Kanji for either the English word or Hiragana spelling. You select the card deck based on lesson number from the ebooks. Then, begin the deck. It shows the English meaning, the hiragana spelling, and a blank where the Kanji will go. You tap on the blank, and the Kanji appears. How does this assist learn Kanji? How is this a "flash card"? If I wish to just see Kanji heroes, their meaning, and pronunciation, I can look in the Genki textbooks. A flash card apk is supposed to give the student a method to input an reply - either the sound or definition of a Kanji, or the Kanji for a sound and/or definition. This apk seems to offer neither. Or, if it does, does not create it clear how to do this.
