With tiny income over the years, debts began to mount. The Barmore Lake Association owed a mortgage of 2,900 dollars by 1915. It became apparent that a change in ownership was required for the property. In June 1917 (one month after the United States declared fight in Globe Fight I), 107 subscribers signed the charter for a fresh “Grove Town Country Club” and the transition of ownership was complete. In 1918, the dues for Club Membership were five dollars per year. During Globe Fight II, the place now known as the picnic grounds was an orchard, and members planted “Win Gardens” along the driving range. There were numerous property acquisitions throughout the years that culminated in the expansion of the golf course in the 1990s. In 1996, the “fresh nine” was added. Designed by John Ponko, this project completed the Club’s transition to an 18-hole golf course. Today, Grove Town Country Club maintains its status as the region’s premier personal country club destination, with an award winning golf course and peaceful setting, offering its members and guests a truly one of a type experience.
