Historic Morristown Walking Tour and Beyond Estimated Tour time: approximately 2 hours to two days Audio: 25 minutes Morris County was formed by an Act of the State Legislature on March 15, 1738. Named after Colonel Lewis Morris, then Governor of the Province of Fresh Jersey, the region originally included what are now the counties of Morris, Sussex and Warren. A few years after its founding, the community of West or Fresh Hanover was renamed "Morris City" and designated the county seat of government. The first 20 stops are in the downtown core of Morristown. Stops 21 through 24 are walkable but are outside the core. Stops 25 through 27 are better visited with a vehicle. This tour provides content and guidance for a two-day or more visit of Morris County’s national historic landmarks and major attractions.
