This is a gratis evaluation copy of iRegatta Pro, where you can try the features for 4 mins. You can buy access to the features you like to use as In-App purchases, or you can buy the Pro ver to have Primary, NMEA and AIS features included. The built-in GPS unit and the special graphical possibilities of these devices, create them ideal for such an application. IMPORTANT: iRegatta requires internal GPS or Bluetooth/WiFi connection to NMEA data, to receive the sailing data needed for calculations. iRegatta has been accessible for iPhone/iPad for years, and has a lot of useful features. Now the Android device ver has related features, except that NMEA instrument data also can be used with a BlueTooth connection (or a Wireless connection connection). If you have a Android device smartphone anyway, this is a cheap method to introduce you to the benefits of a GPS device, to assist you leverage your regatta sailing performance. A downside is of course the fact that most phones are not waterproof! But there are products out there, you can place your device into, to create it waterproof and still be able to operate it while sailing. In this method you can either mount it near your another instruments on your keelboat or strap it to your arm if you are sailing a dinghy. Features: Main View. Here you can see your 4 most necessary readouts, for instance Heading, Speed, VMG and Wind Direction. By tapping and holding one of the 4 main readouts for 2 seconds, they become configurable. Scroll down the list to chose the info you wish to display. A lot of of the possible readouts are only updated if you have NMEA input. If navigating towards a waypoint, you can configure your readouts to display distance/bearing. There is also a lift indicator, showing you if you have been lifted by a wind shift, and graphs showing the development in your speed and VMG over a configurable amount of time and a performance bar. Wind direction. Set your wind direction by storing your heading while sailing on upwind on starboard and port tack, or simply kind it in. Begin view. Here you have your count down (including sync), and you can tag your starting line and iRegatta will calculate the distance to the line and indicate the favorite line end, if wind direction is set. Waypoints. Navigate to your favorite pre-stored waypoints, make a route of waypoints or make a fresh temporary waypoint by distance/bearing. Stats view. Here you can see your place, Max speed and Trip odometer. On the left hand side there is a polar diagram - tap it and it'll increase in size. Change the wind speed to see the various polars. These polars are the base for the performance bar in the race view. NMEA If you select to turn on "NMEA input via BlueTooth" in the iRegatta setting, you will be able to keep instrument info from your boat, if it's able to transmit NMEA info using BlueTooth. Be aware that info from various instruments can be transmitted in various NMEA syntaxes. Not all NMEA syntaxes are implemented in iRegatta. AIS If you have an AIS receiver that transmits AIS data as NMEA sentences, an AIS radar-like display will present all vessel info received.

Roger Hudson: The Apk is fundamentally very awesome however I struck an unexpected annoying surprise with the NMEA data extension that I purchased (iRegatta+N, ver 4.07 Android device ver with iRegatta NMEA extension). The smartphone I am using has internal GPS and internal compass which I wanted to use with iRegatta. I have separate Wind and Speed instruments and set up a NMEA 0183 to WiFi gateway to transmit the following NMEA sentences to the smartphone and iRegatta Apk: - VHW Speed through water. - MWV Apparent Wind Direction and Speed. I was hoping to use these NMEA signals in addition to the internal GPS and compass to provide the full set of inputs for iRegatta. However under iRegatta Settings - NMEA Input - Select Instrument Data Source; there are only 4 accessible selections: - Internal GPS - Bluetooth NMEA - WiFi TCP NMEA - WiFi UDP NMEA If WiFi (TCP or UDP) NMEA is chosen iRegatta stops using the internal GPS data. The internal compass continues to be used. If using NMEA data, the only solution presently to receive GPS appears to be that you need to install an external GPS with NMEA output. I am resigned to having to go ahead and do this and unfortunately will need to drop the Speed Through Water data as my WiFi Gateway only has two NMEA ports.

A Google user: Will buy a pro ver when the pebble watch connects. Thank you! P.S. Pebble watch module doesn't wish to connect on Nexus 7. Works on Nexus 5 though.

A Google user: Not compatible with lollipop due to wireless connection problems. Lollipop won't connect to a wireless connection network if there is no Internet connection.
