Parallel parking is a way of parking a car parallel to the street (hence the term 'Parallel Parking'), in line with another parked cars. Parallel parking usually requires initially driving slightly past the parking place, parallel to the parked car in front of that place, keeping a secure distance, then followed by reversing into that place. Subsequent position adjustment may require the use of forward and reverse gears.Parallel parking is considered to be one of the hardest skills for fresh drivers to learn and is a needed part of most street tests. Parallel parking enables the driver to park a car in a smaller place than would be real of forward parking. Driving forward into a parking place on the side of a street is typically not possible unless two successive parking places are empty. Reversing into the spot via the parallel parking technique allows one to take advantage of a single empty place not much longer than the vehicle (in order to complete the parking within three wheel-turns the parking place would generally need to be about one and a half car-length long).New drivers learn to use reference points to align themselves in relation to the vehicle in front of the place, to determine the proper angle for backing, and to determine when to turn the steering wheel while backing.
