About the application:

Lifeline4Moms is a provider-facing apk to provide decision-support to obstetric providers as they address maternal mental health needs of their perinatal patients. The apk has 5 distinct sections that contain: Screening; Assessment; Treatment; Medication Chart; and Risks and Benefits of Meds. The apk does not provide individualized medical suggestions, but presents evidence-based rules that specifically address the mental health needs of perinatal women. Screening allows providers to enter the depression screen score (from the EPDS – the depression screen used by most obstetric providers) and then be taken to Assessment, which helps providers understand various screen scores, info severity of symptoms, provides possible talking points about how to explain screen to patients, and recommend possible treatment options. Treatment maps out a range of evidence-based treatment options including Self Care, Help Groups, Therapy, and Medication. In each section, there is the chance of using Talking Points to assist providers know how to talk about mental health problems and concerns with their patients. Before accessing the Medication Chart, providers are taken through a Bipolar Disorder Screen (2-3 questions), as this is best practice before considering medication for depression. Providers will then navigate through a series of questions based on patients current medication practices (e.g., are they currently taking an antidepressant; do they have a history of taking antidepressants). Providers will then have access to info that describes best practices for first (SSRI) and second line treatment tactics, as well as info re: starting doses, tactics to increase meds, therapeutic range, side effects of meds, and next steps based on clinical improvement versus. no clinicial improvement. There is also access to extra psychoeducation re: Assessing Thoughts of Harming Baby and Assessing Suicidal Ideation. Risks and Benefits of Meds takes the provider through a series of modules focused on how to educate patients about antidepressant medication during pregnancy and lactation. Sub subjects contain: Counseling patients about antidepressant use; Antidepressant use during pregnancy may increase risk of…; Risks of undertreatment or no treatment of depression during pregnancy; and Talking to your patient if they are pregnant or lactating.
