This low diet application in FODMAP explains what is a low diet in FODMAP, how it works and who could test it. FODMAP means oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and fermentable polyols. These are the scientific terms used to classify carbohydrate groups that are known to trigger digestive symptoms such as bloating, gas and stomach pain. FODMAPs are found in a wide range of foods in varying amounts. Some foods include only one kind, while others include several. Do you have digestion issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal distension or gas? A "low FODMAP" diet may assist. I've never heard of FODMAPs? They are a kind of carb. FODMAP carry water to your digestive tract, which should cause it to become inflamed. If you eat too much of them, they can stay in your gut and ferment.
