The founder of the National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF), Larry Leon Hamlin, coined the word “Marvtastic” which means there is nothing greater or better than. This historic happening illuminates the strong theatrical spirit and extraordinary talent of performers, designers, directors, producers and technicians from across the country and abroad. During six life-impacting days, you will experience electrifying performances, informative workshops, riveting movies and insightful spoken word poetry that will begin your eyes to the beauty and depth of African American artistic endeavors. Every evening culminates with a Celebrity Reception, Midnight Readers’ Theatre and late night Words and Verses. The star-studded Opening Night Gala gets underway with a vibrant parade of strong African drummers and dancers followed by a grand and royal procession of more than 40 celebrities of scene, tv and film. Enjoy a taste of Broadway in the second part of this exciting evening with the hit musical Jelly’s Latest Jam presented by the North Carolina Black Repertory Company.
