NAMCC History Like so a lot of Muslim communities across North America, the North Austin Muslim Community started with just a few worshipers. In 1990, a dozen brothers began praying Friday prayers (Salat al-Jum’ah) in a house on Prairie Dove Circle in Austin, Texas. Soon after, the numbers began to grow. A non-profit organization was established and named the North Austin Muslim Community Center. The group moved into a rented place on North Lamar Blvd. This newly formed community worked hard over the next few years to raise funds and search the right place to purchase for a permanent masjid. The right piece of property came on the shop and, alhamdulillah, the property was bought for $152k. There were three buildings on the property badly in need of renovations. The community worked hard and renovated one of the buildings and opened first ever masjid in North Austin in December of 1996. A few years later the another 2 buildings were renovated for a Sunday School and Imam’s quarters. In 2012, the masjid was officially named Masjid Aisha, after the beloved wife of Prophet Muhammad, peace by upon him. Now, with over 1000 brothers and sisters attending Friday prayers, the community has outgrown its current place, and we have embarked on a project to complete the construction of a fresh masjid at the same place — one that will, insha Allah, accommodate this growing community for a lot of years to come. NAMCC offers dozens of services Today, NAMCC offers a lot of activities and services to the Muslim community of Austin. The Da’wah Committee has created good strides educating the public about Islam. With Islam 101 classes and Begin House happenings, the Da’wah Committee has been able to clear the misconception of Islam in the minds of a few people and have educated long time Muslims about the fundamentals of Islam. Friday Halaqah are held at the Masjid with a series of Islamic lectures teaching the community Tafseer, Ahadith and tip on how to raise kids according to Islam in our society. Extra Halaqah are held for the sisters and for the youth. A Monthly potluck gives the community an occasion to socialize and taste a lot of various cuisines. Monthly guest scholar broadens community’s Islamic Knowledge by their experienced lectures. NAMCC also offers primary services like marriage (nikkah), family counseling services, sadaqah (charity) and zakat services helping over 100 needy families and individuals each year, funeral services, and accommodations for Ramadan, where we serve iftar 7 days a week, perform taraweeh prayers, offer Itika’af, Eid prayers and Eid picnics. To meet the Islamic educational needs of the kids, NAMCC offers afterschool Quran classes, Sunday school and summer school. The current place is very convenient for people living in all parts of the city, thus is an beautiful put to worship for a lot of Muslims or all various background. This masjid is the busiest masjid in Austin. Due to the perfect services and activities provided, more and more Muslims are relocating to this place and deciding to join the community of Masjid Aisha. Due to these increasing numbers, 3 Jum’ah (Friday) prayers have to be held. The need for more place has come and the time is now to build it. This community not only needs but deserves a bigger masjid.
