However, the backdrop of the mini game is set in the ancient Rome, and the mini game attempts to follow faithfully the known course of the happenings to the extent that is known to the modern history writing (some liberties have been taken in interpreting the info to create the mini game more entertaining). The mini game has some minor RPG like elements such as unit leveling (success in combat leads first to veteran, then to elite status, giving statistics improvements), but at its heart it is first and foremost a pure tactic game. Nearly two millennia before the era of medieval knights and castles of the European middle ages, the first ancient settlers of the Roman tribe founded the town of Rome. As the legends customarily tell, the twin brothers and townsmen Romulus and Remus were the original founders, with Romulus eventually becoming the first lord of Rome. From its humble beginnings first as a little village, and then a local kingdom, its destiny was to become a good empire encompassing all coasts of the Mediterranean sea and even beyond. For centuries, his royal majesty the Emperor of Rome was undoubtedly the most strong man on the Earth, wielding total authority over a really big portion of the humankind, until warfare with barbarian hordes and a lot of years of military revolution brought the fallen empire to its end. The mini game begins with the Romans landing on southeastern coast of Britannia; You, the user, will lead the Roman troops, legion after legion, from a war to other in the name of the Roman Empire versus the local warlords of Britannia. Assault the native realms before they build an alliance of resistance versus Rome ... and may the god of fight Mars provide defense from the fury and vengeance of your opponents in the battlefield!

James Maxwell: Though this mini game is simpler than a lot of strategic simulation mini games I've played (on true computers), I'm having a lot of fun with both PR mini games. I should want for a lot of fancy stuff...like the ability to play both sides of each scenario (heck Boudicca got a raw deal, I wish her to victory!). But what I really wish is PR3!

Zac Lochner: Not a whole ton fresh, but if you loved the first mini game as I did, then you'll buy this no question. Harder difficulty levels add a bit of a challenge, and force you to play more conservatively. Can't wait for more installments!

Martin Vosper: Really awesome hex based tactic mini game - had found the earlier mini game in the series tough but it is possible to victory and complete all the wars once yve worked out the mini game tactic. Awesome challenge and replay value. Yr troops gain attack and defence points with combat victories. Create sure u repair yr elite and veteran troops in towns if they drop to one health point. Create full use of terrain and surround the opponent on a few sides to boost combat results. Graphics primary but not a trouble to video test

Dieter Bachmann: The mini game is awesome and well balanced (though on 'normal' you'll beat it in a single sitting once you understand the guidelines). But rather than a "ver 2" of the earlier mini game, this is basically eight fresh levels for the old mini game. I was hoping for some extra features, e.g. unit cost per turn (which would force you to balance your strength as opposed to just bulldozing the ai with all you've got) or supply lines mechanics.

Daniel Smith: The populus Romanus mini games are both good fun for tactic enthusiasts, but this seems a lot shorter and a bit easier to beat. The fresh two hit pt army evaporate without paying much part (a hoplite equivalent for the ai to defend cities with would create it trickier) and once beaten on hard you are left wanting more, eg play as Britannia. Nevertheless I can strongly suggest it as a fun mini game, only an smidgeon away from 5 stars.
