  Bill Pierce: I'll have to use the apk during the ride to see if it is truly worthwhile. At the moment (two weeks before RAGBRAI) it appears to have some value, but I can already see some potential drawbacks. One is that it requires data access for much of the content and a lot of of the features. Anyone who has been on the ride knows that the bandwidth and capacity intended to help the normal activities of rural and small-town Iowa are just not up to the loads experienced during RAGBRAI. Data is always the first thing to be throttled back (or even temporarily suspended); sometimes voice service is affected, and I've even seen occasions when texts took as long as 20 mins to go through. As a effect, I've also downloaded full PDF versions of the route maps that are complete unto themselves and don't require data access. I rode 26 RAGBRAIs without any type of smartphone, smart or otherwise. Sometimes I long for those simpler days.

  Julie Faas: Generally seems like a awesome apk. However, I was not able to access ANY info when I didn't have a data signal. Not only is that highly impractical for RAGBRAI, it's contrary to how the apk is advertised to work.
