Gratis and open-source apk that informs you of different weather hazards, courtesy of the National Weather Service. Nowadays, weather apks are bloat! They are resource and battery hogs, have awful performance, and are bundled with trackers and advertisements. This apk is trying to fix that. Introducing a lightweight weather warning program. To be clear, this isn't your typical weather apk. In most cases, it is nothing more than a blank screen, that is until some weather is expected in your place. At that point, the apk reliably sends push notifications and provides detailed info on the most up to date forecast. It's not going to tell you Thursday's probability of precipitation, but it is going to tell you could prepare for a hail storm and park your vehicle in the garage. The simplicity allows for it to be modular and pair well with another apks. A lot of attractive lightweight apks just lack severe weather alerts. Or maybe you're someone who doesn't care much for weather, you hold an umbrella in your vehicle, and just wish to know when there's going to be a snowstorm. I got you covered as well. Both the frontend and backend are gratis (as in freedom and cost), open-source, and there's no advertisements or in-app purchases. What this apk tells you about: Tornados, Tsunamis, Powerful winds, Powerful and severe thunderstorms, Flooding, Fire Weather, Hurricanes, Typhoons, Tropical storms, Storm Surge, Blizzards, Winter storms, Ice storms, Boating and swimming hazards, Snow squalls, Avalanches, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Awful air quality, Dust storms, Excessive heat, Extreme cold, Warm-season freezes and frost, Dense fog, Dense smoke, etc. TLDR; The weather that matters, poses a threat to life or property, and won't be cringe if you mention it in little talk. What this apk doesn't tell you about: Probability of precipitation, high and low temperatures, dew point, visibility, pressure, etc. Unless of course these parameters are relevant to expected hazardous weather. Features: - Easy. Less is more here. - Shows a history of previous versions. Beautiful useful to see how the severity and confidence of an alert are trending with time. Especially useful if you are responsible for making weather-related decisions. Can also assist differentiate updates that don't appear to have any changes. - Various alerts are color-coded and have icons in the notification tray to assist communicate the kind of alert at a glance. - Notifications utilize the given place to present the alert name and as a lot of info as possible. - Text is parsed to beautiful things up and remove hard line wraps. - Expired alerts present in the apk for a while. Useful if an alert is brief or you slept through it. Also, info about the end of a hazard is often place out near or completely after an alert expires. You would never see this otherwise. - Graphics! Alerts are commonly place out for really big places and constrained by county and geographical borders. Everyone in the place gets the same notice. This apk overlays that place over official forecast maps from the same people who sent it. This feature helps personalize the forecast. The graphics are dynamically generated based on the alert kind, time, and wording. This lets you know if you have time to bring the umbrella in or if you could be in your basement. It lets you know if you're in the center of the snow swath or completely outside of it because your county has a panhandle shape. - Alerts are sent by your place, not your city, not your county. Can't trust this is a feature but if you have an apk that's constantly spamming you with alerts, they might not even be for you. - Little. The download size is only a few megabytes. - Info is from talented meteorologists from your local National Weather Service office that understand the climatology in your place. Bill Kortebein: Love that you can set an extremely loud notification (to receive woken up out of sleep, e.g., for a tornado). Love that you can set notification levels individually for various happenings, especially being able to differentiate between tornadoes and severe thunderstorms (don't wake me for thunderstorm!) Love that you can make a fake happening to try the notifications. This provides confidence that 1) the apk works the method you expect, and 2) you set things up the method you wanted to. Super helpful.

Robert Pascarella: Got this as a replacement for other apk that stopped working. So far it has been phenomenal. Very straight forward, simple to configure, and does what it claims. Only recommendation I would give to override notifications being muted to play assigned sound at full volume for an extreme alert.

Patrick Frank: I really like the apk. I've always required one like this. I do want that you were able to place a notification sound on medium and low as well as make custom levels with sounds. I would even pay a tiny bit for that feature. I would like to assign sounds to all the various types of warnings so I can tell what kind of alert it is just by hearing the noise. However it's still a very awesome apk and worth five stars. This is very awesome for people who are outdoors or in places w/ inclement weather

Erica Chu: So far so awesome. I was really frustrated with weather apks or even wireless emergency alerts not consistently warning me about tornado warnings and watches. I inspected out a couple apks from The Red Cross, but this one seems to work for what I need. I like how I can see what kinds of alerts do what type of behavior, how I can set the alert tones, can override do not disturb, and can send try alerts. Thank you to the developer! I hope this apk can hold working a awesome long while.

Jon Roberts: Downloaded apk as replacement to WDT's Weather Radio, which is no longer supported. Have had the occasion to run it through its paces and works good. Notifications seem to come within seconds to a couple of mins after NWS problems its watch, warning, etc. Very timely. I like that one can customize notification sounds for various types of alerts. A few recommendations for a future release. 1. The ability to have more than one place so we can monitor grandma's house as well as our own. This would be a ginormous improvement! 2. Place the alerts in some type of order by kind. For example, have a grouping called Winter Weather and contain Snow Squall Warning, Winter Storm Watch/Warning, Blizzard Watch/Warning, etc. Have other group called Tropical and contain Hurricane Watch/Warning, Tropical Storm Watch/Warning, etc. Even just keeping the current list but having them sorted alphabetically I think would be better. 3. Be able to choose your desired place on a map. As it is now, once you have set a place, you can't see it on a map to verify it is set correctly. Anyway, this is a good apk, something everyone could have.

Jamie Willingham: 05-02-21. This has quickly become an apk that *everyone* must have. The recent modernize hits all the right buttons! Fresh & improved interface. Lets you set notification preferences for each severity kind (none, low, medium, high, & extreme), with various sound settings, including DND settings, for each kind. You decide the when and how each weather happening notifies you. Worthy of 5 stars! (Note: Thanks for adding a try feature and for making the Ripple Edit setting optional in the recent modernize!)

AnthonyCarl: Edit 5/31/21: Manual place was added recently. I wanted a replacement for Pro Weather Alert and this is it. Not sure what the modernize frequency is or if it can be adjusted but so far my alerts have shown up within 1 to 3 mins of them being issued by the NWS. Alert notifications are color coordinating by severity and specific alerts can to be reassigned. Notification sounds are changeable. Alerts in the apk present full warning, watch, advisory, statement texts and a map with radar. Well done!

Larry K: Good apk if you move around a lot, as it only alerts you if severe weather is near your current place. Which is determined automatically based on smartphone place service...no more alerts for places you WERE AT but no longer are at. All alerts are configurable as extreme, high, medium or low and alert tones can be assigned to each level. Works good and alerts are sent as soon as the weather service announces.

PianoVideosJustForU: Thanks for making the ripple edit slider remember it's position! Had some wind alerts yesterday and worked just as expected. Comparing alert times to IEMBot, at least with the smartphone screen on it took less than 30 seconds, which seems good to me and comparable to WEA as I remember enough of a delay being able to confirm I was in a polygon from IEMBot before it was sent to my smartphone via WEA. With the screen off, I didn't time it in seconds, but the notification timestamp and IEMBot's timestamp were a min various, which should be also within 30 seconds. Even if it was a min, I think the delay would be caused by my smartphone (or Android device). I added the apk to my phone's battery optimization ignore list since then just in case that was a trouble. I am also glad to hear that you are already working on something related to the hazard mark feature I recommended, and will be looking forward to it and any another features to create it even more customizable, because after that this was what my idea of a excellent weather radio was on the tool side.

I've got a meteogram widget that shows me all the day-to-day info at a glance whenever I'm curious, but this apk lets me know *from my pocket* if there's something I need to be aware of.
