This apk requires Device Admin permissions to work. If you question what it does with the permission, please read or audit the source code, you can also build from the source code on your own. Shelter is a Gratis and Open-Source (FOSS) apk that leverages the “Work Profile” feature of Android device to provide an isolated place that you can install or clone apks into. Shelter comes with absolutely no ad / stats / tracking SDKs bundled with it. All source code is accessible in at https://git.angry.im/PeterCxy/Shelter or mirror https://github.com/PeterCxy/Shelter and the sources are licensed under WTFPL. This apk depends on your Android device system’s implementation of Work Profile. Some vendor / custom ROMs may have a broken implementation that may cause crashes and even bricking of your device. One such example is MIUI from Xiaomi. I currently provide no help for such ROMs because I personally do not own any of these devices. If you are running Shelter on these ROMs, you are on your own. If any developer out there own these devices and should create Shelter run on these ROMs, please send pull requests and I’ll be satisfied to merge them. Features / Use Cases === - Run apks inside the isolated profile so they cannot access your data outside the profile - “Freeze” (disable) background-heavy or seldom-used apks when you don’t need them. This is especially real if you use apks from "some company". - Clone apks to use two accounts on one device Caveats === Shelter is not a full sandbox implementation. It cannot protect you from: - Safety bugs of the Android device system or Linux kernel - Backdoors installed in your Android device system (so please use an open-source ROM if you are concerned about this) - Backdoors installed into the firmwares (no method to work around this) - Any another bugs or limitations imposed by the Android device system. Also, Shelter cannot make more than 1 work profile on one Android device device, and cannot co-exist with any another apks that manages a Work Profile. This is due to the limitations of the Android device system, and I can do nothing about this. FAQS === Q: Why not use Island by OasisFeng, the creator of Greenify? A: Simply because it is not an FOSS apk and it bundles with non-free SDKs. Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean that Island has anti-features like tracking (and I don’t think it has either), it’s just that I wrote Shelter as an FOSS replacement of it. There is no another reason why one would prefer Shelter over Island except for this one. Q: Why does Shelter always run in background? A: Please test removing Shelter from “Latest Apks” every time you close it. If it still persists in your notifications and eating up battery, you might have encountered a bug. Please file a bug report. Q: How do I uninstall Shelter from my device? A: 1) Go to Settings -> Accounts to remove the work profile; 2) Go to Settings -> Safety -> Advanced -> Device admin apks to remove Shelter from Device Admin apks; 3) Uninstall Shelter normally. Q: If I encounter bugs, how do I report them? A: You should file an problem on either the main repository at https://git.angry.im/PeterCxy/Shelter or the mirror repository at https://github.com/PeterCxy/Shelter. Please contain your system info as well as a logcat if possible.

KBC In: For people who previously had boot loop problem for another problem not similar to this apk like getting rebooted once more from ex (tool modernize) do not use it highly not suggested for previously had boot loop problem. Backup smartphone prior to creating profile only solution is to restart if you got to boot loop and enable USB debugging previously to creating work profile and authenticate with your laptop in case of emergency it would assist a lot and its good apk Dev, please add this warning because people don't know about this I recently knew and happened to me.

But, if you shelter a Webbrowser (inspected with whale) the Internet connection wont use my vpn Tunnel (expressvpn) instead it uses my normal connection. When the problem is fixed ill rate 5 Stars. Racoon Rabid: I am running second WhatsApp in Shelter for a few days and it works good. Notifications arrive properly, battery usage is fine, cpu usage too. No advertisements. Shelter has a large advantage imho - a feature i didn't search in paid apks for dual messaging- it allows me to sync the second (work) WhatsApp with various contacts so I finally I don't have private contacts in work WhatsApp. This apk has a good potential. If it had type of setup magician would be good. I am ok with the current state.
