The Biblical Illustrator is an over 34,000 page, 56-volume compilation of 10,000 passages of Scripture. It is arranged in commentary form for use in private study and devotion, and for sermon preparation. The majority of the commentary is illustrative, and contains content from hundreds of popular authors of its day such as Dwight L. Moody, Charles Spurgeon, J. C. Ryle, Charles Hodge, Alexander MacLaren, Adam Clark, Matthew Henry, and a lot of others. While this commentary does not examine the Greek or Hebrew, the Fresh Testament does contain a lot of references to, and explanations of, the original Greek words. Joseph S. Exell edited and compiled this commentary and it is the triumph of a life devoted to Biblical research and study. Assisted by an troops of students, Exell draws on the rich stores of good minds since the Fresh Testament times. The Biblical Illustrator brings Scripture to life in a special, illuminating method.
