About the application:

Mel Chin's Unmoored explores a potential future where climate change has gone unchecked, and thanks to melting ice caps, erosion, and coastal flooding, Times Square is entirely underwater. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, this site-specific apk allows guests to discover a submerged Times Square in an augmented reality experience. Guests who look up in Times Square will see a nautical traffic jam of boats bobbing 26 feet above them. This flotilla contains boats of all types and sizes, slowly making their method around existing buildings and landmarks. The untethered boats occasionally bump into each another and buildings, causing undulations of wave-like action and sending amplified underwater sound effects to audiences. Visitors can experience Unmoored in mixed reality via HoloLens on July 11, 12, and 13. Unmoored’s augmented reality apk will be accessible for download and use in Times Square from July 11 through September 5, 2018.
