About the application:

Developed during the golden age of arcade mini games, the mini game has been included on lists of the greatest video mini games of all time. The user pilots a warrior craft from a first-person perspective. The user does not have to destroy every opponent warrior craft and gun tower in order to advance through the mini game; instead, the user must survive for a set length of time, either avoiding or destroying opponents and the shots they fire. The user begins with six shields, one of which is lost for every collision with an opponent or projectile. If the user loses all shields and is hit once more, the mini game ends. Each wave of the mini game consists of three attack phases, culminating in the destruction of the opponent battlestar. Phase 1 In the first phase, the user engages in a dogfight with opponent warrior craft in outer place near the battlestar. Phase 2 In the second phase, the user must fly across the surface of the battlestar to reach its equatorial trench. This section is omitted during the first wave of the mini game. During the second wave the user is attacked by artillery bunkers, while in the third and subsequent waves laser towers on turrets rise to confront the user. The user is awarded a premium for destroying every turret. Phase 3 In the third phase, the user must navigate the trench until finally firing a proton torpedo for a direct hit on the exhaust port target. If the user is successful, the battlestar explodes and the user is awarded a premium shield, to a maximum of six. Could the user fail to hit the exhaust port, a shield is lost and the user must attempt the trench once more. If the user manages to destroy the battlestar without firing at anything but the exhaust port, a premium is awarded. The mini game then resets to the first phase. Each successive wave greatly increases the difficulty; opponent warrior craft shoot more often, artillery bunkers and laser turrets appear in the second phase, and obstacles appear in the trench during the third. The opponent troops in this mini game shoot projectiles resembling fireballs, which give the user a possibility of destroying the shots.
