A awesome feature not mentioned in the Zoleo advertisements is that the unit can keep the Iridium satellite signals below deck; place it near a port and it works. You can sit at the nav station and text from your phone. JDH.

  Blustuff BR: This is about the whole, beacon, messaging, and apk but fortunately not emergency call. The setup is complex. The use of the circle icon is not intuitive. The android device BT connection is not straightforward. There's an error with the date on the weather page. It misses emergency warnings. Add ons, more messages etc. are expensive. It is not clear which messages are billed and how are a lot of left. The beacon misses an essential function: a try button!

  Ahnesa Yeulampiyeva: The apk looks easy to use. I'm still learning it though. Currently I'm trying to figure out if there is a chance to change Fahrenheit to Celsius for the weather forecast and also if I can text or email anybody else even if they haven't been set up as my check in and SOS contacts. I guess I can but didn't test this yet being in the backcountry.

  Connie Morris: I love my Zoleo. We live off grid and almost 100 km from the nearest cell signal in Northern BC. It is a life saver, I can stay in touch with our children. We loved it so much we purchased a second one for my husband. No we can stay in touch with each another when either one of us is out and about. A truly good security measure.

  Jackie Hrabok: Use zoleo in Alaska year-round. Its monthly service plan costs less than GCI and zoleo works good in remote villages in the Bering Strait region and Seward Peninsula. For only $35/month I can send 250 zoleo messages. It costs nothing to keep them. The weather reports are quick and accurate too. Using this apk I can write basically a everyday journal entry to my mate overseas for pennies. Good device!

  Dana Edgell: Weather does not always modernize correctly which should be life threatening in awful weather. When I request an modernize (using up a notice), after a while the apk says it has updated, and it changes the displayed date/time to indicate the weather prediction has been updated, but sometimes the actual weather part is not changed from the previous modernize. e.g. Previous overnight prediction being listed as the current daytime prediction, the moon being the clear sky icon during the day etc. Not secure.

  Susan Sons: I love my Zoleo communicator. Coming back from a knee injury, the ease of communicating from anywhere gave me the confidence to receive back out on the trails once more, even solo, because I can bail out and call a ride if I need to. I just used Zoleo on my first long trip, an off-grid hiking vacation to a lovely cabin in a middle of nowhere. I was able to check in with family periodically, and the battery life was good. Meanwhile, Zoleo is far more affordable than the competing products (Spot/InReach) from Garmin. For a lower price, I receive more messaging, and Zoleo's apk is clever in using the least expensive accessible way to send/receive each time. I'd have given the apk 5 stars if: - There were a running count of my used satellite notice credits for the current billing cycle. - The set-up workflow for players without Zoleo devices joining to communicate with me were more intuitive - The identifiers were special (e.g. a player name) rather than based on my cell smartphone number. I use my cell smartphone for work, projects, and a lot of another things. I don't wish crossover with the very tiny messaging I will engage in when I receive away from it all.

  Alexander Turlov: Firstly, this apk is a mandatory companion for the Zoleo device. In its current state it provides just bare minimal functionality and even much of it has a lot of room for improvements. I do hope that apk development is not snoozed and we'll see fresh updates regularly. The issues: 1. Most obvious shortcoming is inability to see notice stats: how a lot of were sent and when. Each an every subscription based communication service always provides this info. It's a must, because it's cash. Zoleo could not not hide this info from the players. 2. The weather forecast history is only accessible when the device is connected, as opposed to messages history. I consider this as just a bug, but very inconvenient nonetheless. Must be able to see at least the latest received weather forecast all the time. 3. Downloaded offline maps? Did not figure out how they are supposed to work and never saw them working.

  Jeff Ozimek: Was planning to buy a Zoleo today at REI, and figured I'd try the apk first. Glad I did. Immediately on trying to set up my cell smartphone number which is step 1, I ran into problems with errors. Only once did it not give me an error code to send an SMS to my smartphone, but when entering that code to receive to step two, I received other error code. It ain't even resend the SMS code when chosen. Unhappy to say this, but I'm pick up the InReach instead. No clue why this doesn't work. Really disappointing.

  Karim Faris: Solid Product. overall better than the tournament (garmin/somewear) , you receive your own number, but lacks a number of primary features that others have: no mapping on apk, no tracking, no public web interface for people to follow you or see notice places on a map, no downloading of waypoints, and no group messaging. I thought these would be simple adds over time but almost a year later and the apk has not seen any meaningful updates which is unfortunate.... I'd still suggest zoleo but if the above are necessary to you, go for somewear -better tool

  F J: Please add: The ability to see how a lot of satellite messages have been used and are left along with the date the plan expires. Garmin offers this in their devices. Please remove: the need to leave GPS enabled, as the device has a GPS chip itself, having to leave GPS on on the smartphone wastes battery. If I'm in the back country, could only need to have Bluetooth enabled.

  Jake Vis: So firstly my device died while out using it... Fails to charge and overheats, not awesome for a security device. Zoleo has been painless in its replacement however. I pay $50 a month for an infinite plan.. Now they finally introduced automatic tracking.. But wish $6 more a month for that, when it's a standard feature with bivy or inreach. It also seems this place sharing+ requires your family/friends to install there apk, and that's a non starter. There is no web page to send them too.
